A STUDENT has landed a dream job just a month before graduating from university.

Josh Mitchell, from Sea Front, Hayling Island, has won the role of Ambassador of Meerkova – the fictional village ruled by insurance comparison website Compare the Market’s meerkat Aleksandr Orlov.

The 22-year-old Cardiff University student will get £40,000 for six months’ work promoting the company at festivals and major sporting events across the country this summer.

He beat 1,500 hopefuls for the job to take on the unusual role. To stand out from the other candidates Josh used Facebook and Twitter to drive votes.

He said: ‘It has been a real mix bag of emotions since I heard the news that I’d won.

‘I was just honoured to make the shortlist for the final six candidates, but to actually become the winner really justifies the hard work I put in, day and night, to rally support during the public vote.

‘I feel truly humbled by the whole experience.

‘I honestly think I would not be in the position that I‘m in now if it wasn’t for the strong team of family and friends that I had around me, mirroring my dedication and enthusiasm to gain votes.

‘I’m graduating from university this summer and I’ve managed to land a dream job in an increasingly competitive market. Effectively, my life has just changed.’
