RUNNERS have just a week to take their place in a team competing in the Bupa Great South Run for a cancer charity.
Macmillan Cancer Support is calling on more residents to sign up to Team Macmillan, which hopes to raise £170,000 in the 10-mile run on October 28.
So far around 600 runners have signed up to raise money for the charity.
And it is calling on those who are not doing the run for a charity to join its team. Lisa Murphy, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted so many people have signed up to join Team Macmillan and run the Bupa Great South Run.
‘However we want as many runners as possible to join our team and I would urge anyone who is fit enough to take on this challenge to join us.
‘You’ll get fantastic support before, during and after the run, which we know from experience makes a huge difference to those taking on a huge personal challenge.’
Macmillan also want volunteers to either make drinks, congratulate runners or help cheer them alongside cheerleaders from the University of Portsmouth. All the money raised from the run will be used to fund Macmillan’s cancer services, including one which helps people who have financial problems as a result of having cancer.
Lisa added: ‘The number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year and Macmillan wants to be there for everyone who needs us.’
