MORE than a dozen bags of rubbish were collected as around 20 litter pickers took to the streets.

People gave up a couple of hours of their Sunday to do something to benefit the whole community around Spring Garden Lane, Gosport.

The event was organised by two local councillors, Rob Hylands and Austin Hicks.

Cllr Hylands said: ‘The majority of the stuff has been cans, takeaway trays, sweet wrappers, bottles and dog excrement.

‘People have picked it up in bags and then thrown it into the bushes.’

It is the third time the Gosport councillors have organised a litter pick, with one in the town centre earlier this year.

Cllr Hylands added: ‘When people see us out and about it raises awareness on the litter problem and, hopefully, people will think twice about littering.’
