KIDS will get the chance to rule the waves when they learn about the world of boating this weekend.

Youngsters from Portchester, Hamble River, Spinnaker and Hill Head sailing clubs will try their hand at all things maritime at the Hampshire OnBoard Festival on Saturday.

The group of 50, aged eight to 16, will take part in games and relay racing in dinghies at the festival, which will be held at Spinnaker Sailing Club, Ringwood.

They will get a certificate at the end of the day in recognition of their achievements.

The festival is organised as part of the OnBoard Scheme which encourages children to get involved in boating.

Sam Jones, event organiser, said: ‘If previous years are anything to go by the kids are going to have a really great time.

‘Events like this are a chance for them to get more involved in sailing and make new friends.’
