AN annual dragon boat racing fundraiser originally due to take place next weekend has been postponed.

The event at 1000 Lakeside in North Harbour, Portsmouth, has been pushed back to October 3 to 4.

Southsea Castle and Portsmouth and Southsea Rotary Clubs, the organisers, have not revealed the reason behind the move other than to say it is due to ‘unforseen circumstances’.

A statement on the Portsmouth Dragon Boat Festival website says: ‘We had a record number of entries and are hoping that you will be able to rearrange for the new date when it is released.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and will be confirming arrangements for the revised date for this year’s festival as soon as possible.’

The event sees teams race dragon boats to raise money for The Haven cancer charity, among others.
