Based in Cosham, they regularly perform to raise money for charities, including The Rowans Hospice.

A new six-week singing course has now begun at St Phillip’s Church Hall where those taking part will get to learn how to sing, choreograph and technique.

Marilyn Penketh is the founder and musical director of The Pitchpipers.

She said: ‘I founded the chorus 37 years ago and I still love it.

‘The course is excellent and for absolutely any woman over the age of 18.

‘You don’t need to be able to sing.

‘We teach good vocal technique and on week five we have a performance coach coming all the way from Canada to be with us.

‘I would say to people who think they can’t sing, think again!’

The course costs £45 although the first lesson has already taken place.

The group meets every Tuesday at 7.30pm.
