THE power of sport is uniting a community through fun and fitness.

Young people from Leigh Park teamed up with 11 police officers for a basketball tournament at Havant Academy.

The tournament was organised by Big World Impact, a charity aiming to help young people in Leigh Park.

PCSO Ben Howard said: ‘I think events like this basketball tournament are a fantastic opportunity for young people to engage with police officers and help end any negative preconceptions they may have about the police.’

The charity’s cheerleading squad also did its first public performance at half time.

Wade Kerslake, 14, said: ‘I attended the tournament to have fun, learn new skills, and meet new people.

‘And I’ve really enjoyed myself.’
