LETTER OF THE DAY: Hope I don’t end up in an ‘uncaring’ care home

Have your say

Portchester residents take a bow. The sheer weight of public opinion in support of the new LidI store at Portchester was able to cut through the politics of the planning application and that’s how it should be.

Local residents were not interested in the seeds of political game play being sown to try and derail and obstruct the advancement of the store they craved for.

To witness Ferneham Hall almost full to capacity to hear the planning application being debated was awe-inspiring. The councillors on the planning committee must have been flabbergasted by the sheer weight of numbers attending the special morning session.

I know from talking to council staff who were overseeing the meeting they themselves were amazed by the public interest.

To me it demonstrates when the public becomes part of a deeper consultation procedure they are only too willing to participate thus enriching and adding value to the proceedings.

Last Thursday the real stars were the residents of Portchester, they were the real game-changers and may I thank them for showing such a level of support because without it the result may have well been very different. So yes the residents of Portchester indeed please take a well deserved bow.
