POMPEY fans’ favourite Linvoy Primus has opened a resurfaced football pitch which it is hoped will benefit the entire community.

The official opening at the Stacey Centre, in Walsall Road, Copnor, was attended by the deputy Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Cllr Frank Jonas and Baffins ward councillor Lynne Stagg.

Members of the Friday Club, a club for adults with learning and physical difficulties, also attended the opening ceremony and hope to use the pitch in the future.

Cllr Stagg said it was wonderful to have a legend like Linvoy opening the new pitch.

She said: ‘The more able members of the club have a football team and thoroughly enjoy playing football on Friday evenings.

‘The pitch, which has floodlights, will be available for community use as well as for groups.’

The Friday club runs from 6pm to 9pm every Friday.
