GIRL Guides put on their best elf suits to give Santa a helping hand in Fareham.

Mayor of Fareham Councillor Dennis Steadman and Mayoress Carole Steadman joined the girl guides at the grotto in Fareham Shopping Centre to officially open it.

Last year more than 2,000 children visited Santa there and over £4,500 was raised.

All money raised will go to Girlguiding Hampshire East.

Fareham Shopping Centre’s Mike Taylor, operations manager, said he was delighted with the results.

‘The guides make great elves and the Christmas grotto is even more magical than last year,’ he said.

Entrance to the grotto costs £5.50 per child.

Children get a present from Santa.

Fareham Shopping Centre will be open until 7pm every Thursday.

And it will be open late every night from Monday, December 17 until Christmas Eve for last-minute Christmas shopping.
