ALMOST £3,000 has been donated to help victims of domestic abuse, thanks to a department store in Southsea.

A cheque for £2,867 was handed to Havant Women’s Aid by John Lewis Knight & Lee.

The cash was raised by staff at the store through fundraising activities in 2011.

This year the store has already raised more than £1,000, with more events in the pipeline, including an Olympic sweepstake, raffles, auctions and bake sales.

Havant Women’s Aid supports victims of abuse in the Havant area, with a number of Portsmouth women and their children benefiting from the service.

Tracy Gee and Ruth Kirby, from Knight & Lee, are pictured presenting the cheque to Sue Harrower and Yvonne Carter, from Havant Women’s Aid, at the store’s restaurant.

Sue said: ‘The work the charity does touches the lives of so many, helping women to start again: some, after so many years of abuse.’
