WHEN it comes to his garden, Martin Street likes to be able to enjoy it all year round.
Martin has been working on his garden for the past 20 years and has more than 150 trees and shrubs and has now entered The News Bloomin’ Marvellous competition.
Most of his plants are evergreen so he can enjoy his flourishing garden even in winter.
Martin, from Hill Head, said: ‘I have been working on my garden since I first moved into the house so it’s been around 20 years.
‘It is mostly made up of trees and shrubbery, a few of which flower so that’s lovely to see in the summer when the garden really brightens up.
‘But I wanted a garden I could enjoy all year so a lot of them are evergreen. I also have a number of climbers among the trees and shrubbery.’
With so many trees, Martin’s garden is a hub for wildlife.
He added: ‘We get a lot of birds in the garden so we have a lot of nests. I like seeing all the wildlife.’
Martin sees his garden as a hobby and enjoys tending to it in the summer and in the winter.
He said: ‘I wanted a nice garden because it’s my hobby. I can enjoy it all the time.’
The winner of The News’ annual Bloomin’ Marvellous contest – to find the best garden in our area – will receive £100 in vouchers for Garsons in Titchfield which has a huge range for gardeners, from beginners through to experts. Its hardy plants are guaranteed for life.
