RESIDENTS of a care home celebrated the arrival of summer with the mayor and mayoress of Havant at a strawberry tea.

Mayor and mayoress Ken and Hazel Smith said they were delighted to meet residents, their families and staff at Latham Lodge, in Stakes Road, Purbrook.

Entertainment was provided by singer Gary Lane, who belted out some golden oldies.

Kay Wainwright, Latham Lodge’s deputy manager, said: ‘We wanted to do something special to welcome summer’s arrival after such a long winter. We have such beautiful grounds at Latham Lodge and the residents have been really looking forward to enjoying the gardens again. The afternoon was wonderful and we are delighted that the mayor and mayoress came along to help us celebrate.’
