MIDWIFERY students hope to fill Eastney seafront with a line of pennies today.

A group of student midwives from Bournemouth University will attempt to create a mile of pennies from donations and contributions from people passing by
to fundraise for a trip to Uganda.

Jenni Manley, 25, of Southsea, said the group of 14 students and experienced midwives were planning the trip to work in a hospital in the town of Hoima.

Ms Manley said ‘We’ll be starting at 1pm at Eastney Swimming Pool and trying to map out a mile along the seafront with pennies.’

Ms Manley said the team was keen to go to Uganda and help expecting mothers there.

She said: ‘There’s a big need for midwives and training in Uganda.

‘The hospital we’ll be working in is a lot different to here.

‘They need supplies and training to help them deal with emergency situations and other procedures.’

The trip will start on July 4.
