LADIES taking part in this year’s Miss Great Britain had better watch their backs as a wrestling woman bids to lift the title.

Lou Ballard, 26, from Stubbington is no stranger to a spot of lifting either – she has been wrestling and lifting weights for the last three years.

The current holder of Miss Personality of Great Britain said: ‘I wrestle every Sunday and have no problem power-slamming 16-and-a-half-stone men. I can do power squats with weights up to 65kg.’

Dinky Lou, who went to Crofton School and Fareham College, got put through to the Miss Personality of Great Britain final as a wild card after she entered a different competition and came third.

And Lou proved she was no loser by doing the south proud and slam-dunking 60 other contenders to take the title.

She said: ‘It was great. Winning Miss Personality means I get to enter Miss Great Britain – and I am really lucky because the competition falls one day before my 27th birthday which is the cut-off age to enter Miss GB.

‘I want people to see that just because I am a weight-lifting wrestler, it doesn’t mean I am not in the running to take the title of Miss Great Britain. It’s something different.’

Lou, who is 5ft 9in, is sponsored by The Bell Inn in Chichester and wrestles men because of her height. Chris Manns, 35, from Gosport, who wrestles under the name of The Fearless Flatliner, got Lou interested in the sport.

He said: ‘Lou is a class act who loves the sport. She has charisma, she is driven and she is tough. If you look at her you might think Hollyoaks and hair straighteners because she is so pretty but, trust me, she is a force to be reckoned with. I am so proud of her.’

The Miss Great Britain final is being held on November 15 in Leicester.

Lou said: ‘I am training hard at the moment to prepare myself for the competition and am having lots of carbs and doing lots of cardio so I have a bikini-fit body to die for.

‘There is a casual wear round, a bikini wear round and an evening wear round. I don’t know who is judging but I have heard there will be a few celebs.’

Voting lines opened yesterday and will close at 8pm on November 14.
