SHOPPERS have been admiring art on display in Fareham.

The Fareham Art Group’s pop-up shop in Fareham Shopping Centre gives people a chance to look at and purchase art by local artists.

One of the items on display is a model aeroplane, representative of the squadron of the USS Bunker Hill.

Keith James, 71, from Hillson Drive in Fareham, spent several months building it.

He said: ‘It was a kit but you’ve got to put it together and fit all the mechanics and the tanks.

‘It took months to make it. I started a few years ago but I’m now 71 and it was getting a bit too much for me. I have used it as an enticement display for people to come and have a look.’

Keith is a member of the Solent Aircraft Artists Society.

He added: ‘I love the challenge. You’ve got something that starts off with a box of bits and you have got to use your common sense.

‘I have been doing model aeroplanes since 1953 when I was about 10. I have always been involved in making model planes, cars and boats.

‘I am very pleased with it. Lots of people have said how nice it is.

‘But the display isn’t just about me, it’s about the arts society as well.’
