SCHOOLCHILDREN have come together to mark the launch of a new interfaith calendar.

Pupils from across the county visited Hampshire County Council’s headquarters in Winchester to welcome the 2012 Hampshire Interfaith Calendar, which was set up by the Hampshire Interfaith Network (HIN).

The youngsters also picked up small prizes for their impressive design entries for the calendar.

They were encouraged to produce poems, drawings or paintings which symbolised different religious events that occur all year round.

A Hampshire interfaith lecture, led by guest speaker Alison Murdoch, was given to more than 100 people after the launch.

Councillor Keith Mans, co-chairman of HIN, said: ‘I would like to congratulate all the young artists who submitted their designs for this year’s calendar competition.

‘Their entries were of outstanding quality. These events play a valuable role in building greater understanding between people of different faiths and cultures across the county.’
