BUSINESSES are being encouraged to support breastfeeding mums.

Havant Borough Council is throwing its weight behind the Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme, which will be rolled out across the Havant and Waterlooville area in the coming months.

The initiative aims to enable mothers to breastfeed easily and comfortably wherever they go.

Businesses will be encouraged to take part by displaying a Breastfeeding Welcome logo on their premises.

The logo aims to reassure mothers that they are welcome to breastfeed within the building. Training will be offered free of charge to business owners.

Nicki Conyard, community team leader, said: ‘Breastfeeding rates across the borough are extremely low. This project has been funded by Public Health through Hampshire County Council to promote businesses welcoming breastfeeding mothers to their premises.’
