IT WAS a successful festival for musical youngsters Esther Farley and Freya O’Grady.

The two Bay House School students won cups at this year’s Gosport Music Festival.

The festival gets people from across the south taking part and this year was the first time people from Gosport have won the cups.

Esther, 15, won the Peter Cheer Cup having scored the highest instrumental mark at the festival for her piano performance.

She said: ‘I was up against some really stiff competition.

‘So I was totally surprised when they called to say I had won it.

‘It was really weird because I didn’t think I had done that well.

‘It is a real confidence boost as well because you go from playing for nobody for weeks and weeks and then you play in front of a big crowd and do well.

‘So it’s great.’

Freya, a Year 7 student, won the Estella Lloyd Cup for Promising Vocalist.

She said: ‘It feels great to win. It was unexpected but I am happy.

‘I also play piano but I am a stronger singer so I was even happier when I won it.’
