THERE were cheers from onlookers as around 20 naked cyclists set off on a protest ride around Southsea today.

Scores of people turned out to watch the spectacle as bike riders - who were nearly all completely naked - left the Rose Gardens at Southsea seafront at midday.

Many had daubed body paint on themselves and the only female wore a strategically-placed long blonde wig.

Protestors from the Portsmouth Family Church had presented a 1,000 name petition to Portsmouth City Council to try and stop the ride.

There was a police presence and Chief Inspector Alison Heydari said they were simply there to facilitate peaceful protest.
