IT MAY have been their wedding day but this newlywed couple still managed to enjoy a trip to Fratton Park.

Richard and Rebecca Langley showed up at Pompey’s home ground on Saturday – in full bride and groom attire – after they tied the knot at Portsmouth Register Office.

The visit was arranged by Rebecca as a surprise for her new husband, who she met at The White Hart pub, in Stoke Road, Gosport, two years ago.

The crowd cheered on the newlyweds as they paraded the turf and had pictures taken during the half-time break of Pompey’s clash with Doncaster.

After the game, which Pompey won 3-1, the couple met man of the match Luke Varney and Pompey’s chief executive David Lampitt over a glass of bubbly at the club’s Montgomery Suite.

Rebecca, 23, from Arbour Court, Whiteley, said: ‘It was brilliant.

‘There was singing and clapping as we waved to everyone in the crowds.

‘It was really special and the perfect way to mark our wedding day.’

Richard, 20, who has been a Pompey fan for the last 10 years, said: ‘I had been giving Rebecca stick in the weeks running up to the big day because I thought I was going to miss out on watching Pompey.

‘The surprise was amazing and when we turned up to the ground it was beyond belief.’

After the day’s celebrations the couple jetted off to Dublin for a three-day honeymoon.

Richard added: ‘It was the best experience of my life.

‘I’ve never been on the pitch or been behind the scenes.

‘Everyone was really kind, there were handshakes and people saying congratulations to us.

‘We missed the first goal because we were having trouble getting Rebecca’s dress up the stairs of the South Stand.

‘All of a sudden we heard cheers and people shouting at us to come more often because we were good luck!’

Neil Weld, of Portsmouth Football Club, said: ‘We’re delighted that Richard and Rebecca chose to celebrate their special day by coming to watch their beloved Pompey.

‘We’re thrilled that we were able to give them the perfect present – three points!

‘Everyone at Pompey wishes the newlyweds a lifetime of happiness together.’
