A NIGHT of laughter raised more than £800 for two local charities.

The event, organised by the Inner Wheel Club of Cosham, saw Martin Muncaster – formerly of Southern Television – and co-star William Godfrey take to the stage.

They performed a comedy show, reciting funny stories and songs at the charity evening at the Church of the Resurrection hall, in Drayton.

Money raised will be split between the Southern Domestic Abuse Service and Home-Start Portsmouth.

Cosham club president Wendy Osgood said: ‘Everyone had an amazing time while raising money for good causes.’

The Inner Wheel Club is an all women social club which aims to support local and international charities through fundraising.

Previously, people could only join the club if their husbands were Rotary Club members.

But members recently voted to change the membership rules so that it is now open to any woman.

There are 33 members in the Inner Wheel Club of Cosham.
