DO YOU know an inspirational person who has made a real difference to Portsmouth or the lives of others?

If so, nominations are being accepted for the first Portsmouth Inspiring Volunteer Awards, which celebrates local volunteers who give their time freely to help others.

Councillor Steven Wylie, The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, said: ‘Volunteers are the lifeblood of the hundreds of community and voluntary organisations in the city, giving up their time to make a
difference.

‘These volunteer awards are a way of saying “thank you” and getting more people involved.’

The awards recognise those deemed to have gone above and beyond the expectations of volunteers in helping to support communities in Portsmouth and nominations are being sought for anyone who has volunteered in Portsmouth for at least six months.

Nominations will be accepted until May 4.

The categories will be: volunteer of the year (aged 25 and over); young volunteer of the year (aged under 25); community volunteer; sports volunteer; health and social care volunteer; environment and conservation volunteer; arts, culture and heritage volunteer; and trustee of the year.
