The Hövding is worn like a collar around the neck but tiny hidden sensors detect a crash and deploy the airbag in a split second.

It forms a protective cushion around the head and is said to be three times safer than a conventional helmet.

The device even has a tiny ‘black box’ system, which measures 10 seconds of data from when the impact happens and the helmet inflates.

Developed by Swedish engineers, the €249 single-use helmet has now been made available in the UK thanks to Bristol-based company, The Cycling Revolution.
