STAFF from The Southern Co-operative stores have helped to raise more than £12,000 for charity with an in-store cycling challenge.

The fundraising drive was held in 20 stores across Hampshire, West Sussex and Dorset and raised money for Canine Partners.

Some of the participating stores included those in Winter Road, Eastney Road and Elm Grove in Portsmouth and Priddy’s Hard in Gosport. Each of the 20 participating stores had 24 hours to cycle as many miles as possible in-store on gym exercise bikes loaned by Fitness First.

In total 303 people cycled 5,400 miles and £12,808 was raised for the charity.

Canine Partners provides specially-trained dogs to enable people with disabilities to enjoy greater independence and quality of life.
