PLANS are well under way for a milestone music festival which will mark 200 years since the Battle of Waterloo.

Waterlooville Music Festival, based around St George’s Church, will celebrate its tenth year in June with a week-long musical extravaganza.

It opens on June 13 with Market Place Music – free concerts taking place throughout the town centre.

There will be opportunities for local schools to show off the talent of their choirs and musicians throughout the week.

Jane Rice-Oxley, the organiser, said: ‘In addition to schools, there is a clarinet and piano concert, an organ recital, jazz, and the Palm Court Tea Dance with cream teas. The wide range of music on offer includes a rock concert on the final Saturday.

Evening concerts focus on presenting amateur performers who are of professional standard, but the week opens with a very special anniversary event as we proudly present The Royal Marines Association Concert Band.’
