WHEN Scott Allen was left paralysed from the waist down after an accident at a construction site, he doubted he would lead a normal life again.

Now the 29-year-old, from The Queensway, Portchester, is all smiles after rising above his disability to compete in the 10-mile race.

Mr Allen was 14 when he fell 40ft onto concrete on land which was being developed into what is now Port Solent. He had been playing with a group of friends when the accident happened.

He said: ‘I doubted at the time whether I would lead a normal life again but I’ve just tried to get on with life as much as possible.

‘I passed my driving test when I was 16 and that led on to getting a job in the motor industry.

‘I’ve also got into sports. I was really pleased with my time of one hour and eight seconds.’
