THREE charity football matches featuring Pompey players of the past will be held at Fratton Park.

Ex-Blues including Darren Anderton, Paul Walsh, Alan Knight, Dave Waterman, Sean Gale and Joe Laidlaw are among the former pros who will be on show.

They will take on 33 customers from the Portsmouth, Gosport and Chichester depots of timber and builders merchants Covers, who were invited to take part for a recommended £60 donation per player.

All the money raised will go to Pompey in the Community, a charity aimed at improving education, healthy living and sporting achievements for young people aged nine to 25 living in the city.

Steve Weston, director of sales at Covers, said: ‘Our customers jumped at the chance to raise money for such a great cause and it’ll be something to look forward to after work on a Friday.

‘They will not only enjoy the privilege of meeting and going up against some past Pompey players, but will also get the chance to play on the hallowed pitch at Fratton Park stadium.’

The three 30-minute matches will take place on Friday, May 8 from 6.30pm and members of the public are invited to watch.

Although there is no ticket fee, buckets for donations will be at the turnstiles to boost the coffers.
