PORTCHESTER precinct stood still as a poignant remembrance service took place this morning.
The service started at 10.30am, and despite heavy rain and high winds, scores of people lined the high street to take part.
During the service hymns were sung and poems and readings were read aloud.
Wreathes were also laid by the memorial from representatives from the military, the Royal British Legion, the mayor of Fareham Councillor Mike Ford and members of the public.
Mr Ford said: ‘It was a very moving service and one that is held in Portchester each year.
‘Ours is slightly different as it’s on a Saturday.
‘It was fantastic and great to see the amount of support given.’
Today’s service marks the start of many other remembrance services taking place in the area.
