A MUSICAL takeover at a school had children playing alongside professional BBC musicians.

Newbridge Junior School in Portsmouth was visited by musicians from the BBC Symphony Orchestra and a film crew as students were given the opportunity to play instruments, hear a performance, and learn filming techniques by putting together a short film.

‘It was about inspiring children to listen to a genre of music that they otherwise wouldn’t listen to,’ said headteacher Anna Webb.

A group of children also had the chance to learn a song with the BBC musicians, which they played to the whole school later in the day.

‘It was mindblowing what they managed to achieve throughout the day,’ said assistant headteacher Sara Petipher.

‘It was quite tear-jerking.’
