ONE of Portsmouth’s most spectacular nights of the year went with a bang last night.

Thousands of people turned out for the fireworks display on King George V playing fields in Cosham.

A giant bonfire was lit by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Cllr Frank Jonas before the dazzling 20-minute display took centre stage.

Families wrapped up warm and turned out in force to enjoy the free event, which was organised by Portsmouth City Council.

There was a jaw-dropping array of rockets, which drew gasps and smiles from the packed crowd.

The display culminated with a crescendo of blossoming bursts of colour and ended with rockets producing thunderous bangs.
