Portsmouth telly watchers reach for the '˜doflicker'

Slang words for the TV remote have doubled over the last three years, a survey has found.

The most popular term for the remote control in Portsmouth and the UK is simply ‘remote’, followed by ‘doofer’ and ‘zapper’.

Some of the more imaginative Portsmouth terms that are used by some of the 3,800 adults surveyed include ‘doflicker’ and ‘dip dap’. ‘Channeller’ and ‘Mote’ are other names which were suggested by people in Portsmouth.

More than 100 regional variations were identified in the national online survey, which was conducted by TV Licensing.
