A YOUNG chef is hoping to win the chance to star in a TV advert with Jean Christophe Novelli.

Daniel Turner is pleading with the public to vote him into the final round of Master Spud, a culinary competition that looks to find talented chefs using meals consisting mainly of potatoes.

In his last round, Daniel prepared baked eggs with duchess potatoes live on stage at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex.

Daniel, 21 from Chichester, said: ‘I was pleased to make it through to the regional heats of Master Spud and cooking in front of Jean Christophe Novelli was great fun, even if a little nerve wracking at times. He was a nice man, a old culinary type.

‘You could see that through the classic French style he had. I definitely learnt a good few tips from him.

‘I would absolutely love to cook my recipe on TV and it would be wonderful if people could vote for me.’

Master Spud is a national competition fronted by Jean Christophe, with five finalists qualifying to take part in the TV advert.

Jean Christophe said: ‘This competition offers budding chefs – like Daniel – all over the UK the chance to not only show off their cooking skills to the nation but also hopefully inspire even more people to cook with potatoes.’

‘Potatoes are such a versatile ingredient – they’re always on my restaurant menus.

‘Food trends come and go but potatoes are an important part of British life.

‘They are the perfect base for any healthy and delicious meal and are extremely quick and easy to cook’.
