AROUND 100 people took part in a demonstration to protest against a medical company using live animals to test on.

The Stop Wickham Animal Testing group holds a national demonstration every September.

Its aim, said spokeswoman Jeanette McClunan, is to tell people that Wickham Research Laboratories, which has been based in Gosport since 2001, test on animals, as well as urging the company to stop.

She said: ‘The campaign against Wickham Laboratories has been going on since the middle of the 70s and we’ve been demonstrating ever since.’

The firm was set up by vet William Cartmell in Wickham in 1963.

Saturday’s march took place around Gosport town centre.
