AN ACE event helped give back to a cancer charity.

Patrons of the Star and Garter pub in Copnor organised a poker tournament to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Trust and support their services.

Organiser Paul Goater said: ‘It was great fun and if you are going to give money to charity then it is a great way to spend the afternoon fundraising.

‘Everyone has friends and family who have been affected by cancer and when we talked about doing it for Macmillan you get a really humbling reaction from people who are all happy to help out and donate.’

There were 18 players in the tournament which took place in the pub on Sunday and raised £1,080 through donations and sponsorship.

Paul added: ‘This is our third year and we hope to do it again.’
