IT WAS a triumphant voyage like no other.

Dmitri Galitzine successfully sailed from Stokes Bay, in Gosport, to the Isle of Wight this morning in a modified pumpkin.

The journey took 1 hour and 56 minutes - and hour shorter than what they had estimated.

Dmitri, an artist from London, had been practising all week for the journey and set a new world record yesterday in practice at Trafalgar Wharf in Portchester.

Speaking before the journey, he said: ‘I am very excited but nervous.

‘The practicing made me feel a bit better so I am looking forward to it.’

Jonny Boys, managing director of Trafalgar Wharf, said: ‘We think that it’s a fantastic achievement and we couldn’t have done it without all of the team here at Trafalgar Wharf who have gone to great lengths to make this happen with some early morning starts, and a few late nights.’
