A ROAD has been closed over fears that a sinkhole could open up.

Margate Road in Somers Town, Portsmouth, has been shut.

No hole has opened up but there is a big depression in the road and there are fears it could collapse if a car drives over it.

It is thought to be over water mains and the water company is due to come out tonight to try to make repairs.

Residents say it is not the first time this has happened. One, who did not want to be named, said: ‘Residents are a little bit fearful about what it may entail, and what might happen.’
