MORE than 30 cyclists are hoping to raise £32,000 for charities and projects in the area.

The team will ride from York to Fratton Park in a 270-mile three-day effort, arriving in time for Pompey’s final home game against York.

Supporters and riders last night launched the Big Pompey Ride’s York2Pompey challenge at the Lanyard pub, London Road in North End.

Tom Dearie, vice-chairman of the Pompey Supporters’ Trust, said the group has raised £6,500 already.

He said: ‘We’re raising money for local charities and good causes.’

Last year’s inaugural ride raised £23,000 and Mr Dearie hopes this year the £32,000 target can be reached. See bigpompeyride.co.uk
