ROYAL Mail has apologised to a Saints fan living in the Portsmouth postcode area after several batches of match tickets she ordered failed to arrive.
Vicky Carruthers, 38, was fuming after three sets of tickets she ordered over the phone to games at Saints’ St Mary’s Stadium went missing – and fears that the reason may be that the envelopes are clearly marked as originating from Southampton FC .
They included two tickets to the club’s clash with Crystal Palace, five tickets for Saints’ game against Tottenham in December and tickets for the recent home fixture against Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month. On each occasion Mrs Carruthers has had to queue up to get her tickets before the game.
Mrs Carruthers, of Boxgrove Gardens, Bognor, said: ‘I never have a problem with any other post.
‘It’s an inconvenience when you have to queue up for tickets at the ground when you’ve already ordered your tickets over the phone.
‘I don’t live in Southampton so I can’t just go and pick my tickets up.
‘I just want it sorted so I can order tickets over the phone that actually get delivered.’
Mrs Carruthers contacted Royal Mail about her plight, but despite an investigation, the tickets had still not been found as of last Friday.
In an email to Mrs Carruthers, Carland Lai, of the escalated customer resolution team at Royal Mail, wrote: ‘I am sorry to learn that you have experienced a problem with your mail delivery.
‘I would also like to offer my apologies for any inconvenience and disappointment you may have been caused.’
The email added that the delivery office manager has been alerted, an investigation has been undertaken and that the matter is being treated ‘with the utmost seriousness and all necessary steps will be taken to ensure you receive an acceptable level of service in the future.’
It added that the tickets had not been found as the movement of first and second class mail is not tracked through the postal network.
However it stated that levels of internal crime within Royal Mail are ‘exceptionally low,’ that any threat to security is treated with the ‘utmost seriousness’ and the firm strives to minimise further incidents.
