DOZENS of dogs led their owners on a walk to raise money for an animal charity.

German Shepherds, spaniels and even huskies joined the seventh Stubbington Ark Wag Walk on Hayling Island yesterday. The RSPCA hopes it will raise several thousand pounds for the charity.

Havant MP David Willetts sent the walkers off from Hayling Light Railway at Beachlands for the two-mile walk along the seafront to Eastoke.

Organiser Sandra Deaville became involved with the charity after rescuing her Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Honey, two years ago.

She said: ‘David Willetts kindly opened the walk for us on his day off. We’ve had a fantastic day. The dogs were all well-behaved and we gave them treats when they’d finished which were donated to us. We even gave the owners apples when they were halfway round. The atmosphere has been great.

‘The Stubbington Ark is such a wonderful charity. We’re hoping to raise as much as last year – £3,000.’
