PORTSMOUTH Film Society has made an addition to its schedule of pop-up screenings around the city.

The society will be showing Ken Loach’s latest film The Spirit of ‘45 at Portsmouth Rail Social Club, Selbourne Terrace, in Fratton on July 5.

Archive film footage from the inter-war and post-war years is combined with contemporary interviews, which recollect and reflect on the wave of public optimism and positive social change that followed the grim privations of six years of total war.

The film is being screened by Portsmouth Film Society Pop Up Cinema as part of a public meeting hosted by Left Unity Portsmouth.

The screening comes exactly 65 years to the day after the founding of the NHS.

There will be an introduction by Dr Iain Maclennan, a former NHS consultant in public health and local GP, following which there will also be a guest speaker.

Door open at 7.30pm for this free event with the screening starting at 8pm.
