SEX and the City actor Kim Cattrall is just one of the stars coming to Chichester Festival Theatre this summer, as it celebrates its 50th anniversary season.
She will be joined by other top names including Derek Jacobi, Penelope Keith and Trevor Nunn.
To celebrate the landmark birthday, the theatre’s season takes a look at its historic past, what its doing right now, and the plans for the future.
The first play, Uncle Vanya, was part of the theatre’s opening season in 1962, while The Way of The World was a widely recognised production in 1984, and is back this year.
Aside from the productions, many of the actors who’ve played a key role for the theatre in the past will return, including Michael Pennington and Henry Goodman.
Well-known actors will appear throughout the season. Derek Jacobi, (My Week With Marilyn and The King’s Speech), will play an eccentric Captain in Heartbreak House.
In September actress Kim Cattrall will star in Shakespeare’s Anthony and Cleopatra, alongside Michael Pennington.
The theatre will hold the world premiere of a trio of new plays, with A Marvellous Year For Plums by Hugh Whitemore, Canvas by Michael Wynne, and Surprises by Alan Ayckbourne.
To mark the landmark birthday Chichester Festival Theatre is going to create a new temporary structure, Theatre On The Fly, to feature new work.
