NEIGHBOURS could be forgiven if they thought they had seen a shark lurking in Canoe Lake, Southsea.

The News’ picture desk assistant Deborah Croker was driving her seven-year-old daughter Mea past the lake yesterday when the youngster thought she spotted the ‘creature’ in the water.

After driving back later to check out what Mea had seen, Deborah discovered it was a metal fin that had been secured down.

Deborah said: ‘It’s a very good new year prank, top marks to whoever created it.

‘It looked quite realistic even at close range.

‘The swans weren’t bothered, so that was a tell-tale sign that it wasn’t real! I hope it’s left there, as it’s very amusing.’
