THE 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens is to be marked with an adaptation of the Portsmouth-born author’s Hard Times.

Original Theatre is staging the performance – to be narrated by a Charles Dickens lookalike – at Shanklin Theatre in December.

Dickens’ novel will be brought to life by a four-strong cast who will change scenes, characters and costumes at high speed, playing the novel’s main characters.

Director Kevin Wilson said: ‘We thought it would be a shame if the Island did not play a part in the worldwide Dickens 2012 celebrations. ‘
