THE LORD Mayor of Portsmouth will plant a tree to mark National Tree Planting Week.

Councillor Cheryl Buggy will use a silver spade provided by the city council’s tree expert Stuart Campbell when she takes part in the planting ceremony.

The planting will be at the beginning of the Ladies Mile on Southsea Common, close to the Pyramids Centre, at 11am on Friday.

Sir Jonathan Band, the patron of the Association, will greet her along with chairman John Ling, the Southsea Tree Wardens and children from local schools.

The public are welcome to attend the event.
