MORE than £500 was raised for charity after firefighters gave up their own time to wash cars.

The retained crew at Waterlooville got stuck into washing dozens of cars, which queued up at the station.

A visit from mobility scooters from Waterlooville Rock and Rollers was a highlight of the charity event.

Volunteers from Plymouth Brethen Church helped by serving free drinks to people as their car or mobility scooters were washed.

All the cash raised will go to The Fire Fighters Charity, which helps serving and retired firefighters who are in need.

Ralph Hutton, station manager at Waterlooville, said: ‘It was steady all day.

‘It was really good.

‘We do events like this all the time and hope to run our next one in September.’
