RESCUERS were called to a river after two stags fell into the water following a fight.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue service were called to the River Arun, near the A283 at Pulborough, and found two stags locked together by their antlers in 3ft of water.

One had died and the other was injured.

Six officers went to the river at about 10.30am yesterday and used animal rescue equipment to release them.
