OLD-fashioned family fun was the order of the day as hundreds of people turned out for a summer fete.

Hayling Park, in West Town, Hayling Island, became a hive of activity yesterday afternoon as families gathered for The Three Churches Summer Fete.

The event is one of the highlight of the calendar on Hayling and yesterday lived up to all expectations.

Leah Turner, a councillor for Hayling East, of Green Lane, certainly enjoyed herself.

She said: ‘It was brilliant.

‘You could have ice-cream or hot dogs.

‘They had a magician and Punch and Judy for the children.

‘There were Egyptian dancers. It was opened by the Mayor, Paul Buckley.

‘It was very busy and not just Hayling people – people came from round the area.

‘It was lovely and warm.’

People delighted in having their faces painted and many tried their hand at smashing plates at one fun stall.

The police and first responders were there to support the event, which is run by volunteers and members of the local churches. The event raises money for three churches on Hayling – St Mary’s, St Andrew’s and St Peter’s.
