PUPILS at a dance school in Southsea have been chosen to represent the country at the Dance World Cup this year.

The children from Marie Clarke School of Dance will travel to Bucharest in Romania in July supported by their parents.

Owner of the school Marie said: ‘We’re all delighted that they have been chosen.

‘They have never done anything like this before.’

The school put forward the pupils that they felt would be able to handle performing on the world platform.

‘Our dancers are used to competing on different stages.

‘I know it’s going to be an amazing experience and opportunity for them all,’ said Marie.

Proud teacher Marie said: ‘Most of the dancers that we’ve entered have been dancing since they were five so we felt they’d be prepared to take part in the world cup.’

Between them they will be performing and competing with 11 dances in different categories including solos, a duet, a quartet and a group tap number.

‘We entered 20 dances to the selection process.

‘It’s fantastic that some of our routines have been chosen to go through to the world cup.

‘I’m so proud of all of them for being selected and for taking our school to such a prestigious competition,’ added Marie.

To raise the funds to be able to go to Bucharest, the group are looking for sponsorship.

They plan to carry out various activities including bag packing in supermarkets throughout the region.
