DANCERS took on fantasy themes in the second night of this year’s Rock Challenge.

Students from South Downs College amazed the packed Portsmouth Guildhall audience with their routine based on the dark film Pan’s Labyrinth.

Their colourful showcase performance was ahead of an appearance in the Premier competition next month.

Brune Park Community College, from Gosport, and Priory School, in Southsea, both received awards for their dances in this year’s open finals.

Youngsters from Brune Park came third overall and took home three awards for The Mental World of Wonka, a dance telling the story of Roald Dahl’s much-loved children’s book.

Coming in fourth and picking up two other awards were Priory, whose dance was called Enter the Kung Fu-kicking Karate Kid.

Organiser Stuart McGregor said: ‘It was another terrific night. South Downs were absolutely amazing, their Pan’s Labyrinth was a really original piece of performance art. And Priory School had the entire Guildhall moving with energy.’
